Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the hottest topics of our lifetime. It’s been thrown around a lot in the past years, but it’s only quite a recent thing to actually see the impacts of AI on our everyday lives — be it smart assistants like Siri or Alexa, or tailored recommendation of music and movies, or even missile navigations or smart cars.

Thanks to the fast development, many companies have started looking into ways to make their businesses smarter as well, and artificial intelligence is here to help in ways that we haven’t even dreamed of just a few years ago.

Today, we’d like to have a look at some of the top trends of AI in 2022. Maybe you’ll draw some inspiration on how to improve your daily life today, and make it even better tomorrow.

INTELLIGENT BOTS AND SMART ASSISTANS

Let’s start with something that we’re all — more or less — familiar with. The way computers are able to record, process and understand written text or speech has evolved so greatly that we can now lead meaningful conversations with our phones or computers. Thanks to technology in linguistics called natural language processing and conversational AI, tech support chat bots are able to help you with your query AND crack a joke while they’re at it, and Siri will do her best to talk to you about the meaning of life.

It’s not just about conversation-able robots — the ways in which intelligent technology helps us understand and communicate has enormous effect on accessibility as well, making it much easier for disabled people to be heard and understood, without the need of an interference of another human being.

Commerce, healthcare, entertainment, logistics, transportation, education — these are just some of the many areas that can benefit from this amazing development.

COMPUTER VISION

Not only are computers learning to understand our writing and speech and translate them into actions and processes, but another significant step is teaching machines to understand and process visual inputs.

Cameras identify your face, tell you to smile or put a dog ears filter on your face. But they can also analyze traffic behavior patterns, execute and process landscaping research, do quality control checks, identify tumors or other health-risks or support autonomous machines. According to Gartner’s 2011 press release on business investments into AI, computer vision is among the top intended investments for companies that have already put some money into AI. That’s how much of a promising endeavor this is.

CYBERSECURITY

According to World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Risk Report, cybersecurity related risks and breakages are among the top threats in our modern society. That should not be a surprise to anyone who is storing their data on the cloud and generally being an internet user. Individuals as well as companies should take utmost care to secure their digital assets, and AI can be an excellent help in that.

Complex system infrastructures also require huge efforts for identifying suspicious activities by analyzing patterns of network traffic. It would be impossible to cover it all by human-executed activities, and this is where AI comes to play. Considering the increasing need for securing data and analyzing and improving security measures, there are further developments to be expected in this area, so stay tuned!

PROCESS AUTOMATIZATION

In the world of IT, advanced software delivery and maintenance companies can hardly imagine their day-to-day lives without process automatization — mainly test automatization, but it is also applicable to data analytics, reporting, training and onboarding, claims processing and many more. For now, robots, once they’ve been taught the patterns and loaded with the data, can take care of thousands of repetitive tasks that would take weeks of human labor, and all that in a matter of seconds.

That is already a massive step forward, but the future plans are even more bold — not automated, but autonomous processes won’t even need human input to happen in the first place. They’ll be able to act on their own, executing tasks and delivering results as needed. However amazing this sounds; we’ve still got a long way to go. Let’s keep that for the future and focus on what we can take advantage of right now.
